Freezer Arrangement: 4 Proven Ways To Maximize Space And Keep The Freezer Tidy

When it comes to food storage in the freezer, the two important factors we must consider are space and tidiness. It is important that we don’t have food spillage when jamming things into the chiller and the best way to avoid this is by coming up with ways to organize the freezer so we don’t have to stuff it in ways that increase the risk of items overflowing. Proper organization will solve this issue and also create space for more food items. This article discusses four ways of organizing the ice-boxto maximize space and keep it neat and tidy.

Get a Vacuum Sealer

A vacuum sealer will do you a world of good when freezing food items in bags. To get started, fill the bag with the food item before sealing it with a vacuum sealer. This will help reduce the excess space the bag will otherwise be taking up while simultaneously helping prevent spillage. Plus you can also see the contents of the bag and identify exactly which container it is that you need..

Take inventory

If you have a lot of things going into your cold-storage box, it is important that you keep track of your inventory. This will help you know the exact contents of your ice-box and also give you an idea of how long a certain package has been in the chiller. So, you won’t have to open your freezer unnecessarily just to check on your inventory or figure out which items need to be topped up.

Use the Door Shelves in Your Freezer

It helps if you use the door shelves in your chiller for certain smaller items. Disclaimer: do not put ice cream or other substances in these storage spaces that could potentially melt. This is because you don’t want your ice cream melting and freezing again whenever you open or close the door. Instead, you can put your canned products or bottled items in these storage cubbies. Food items like sugar, butter, or jam can be placed on the door shelves of the fridge compartment of your fridge-freezer.

Defrost from Time to Time

With time, ice will build up in your freezer compartment, and it's important that you don't ignore it once this happens. Freezing food items on ice in these compartments just takes up valuable space and so, it is recommended that you defrost the cold storage from time to time and do regular clean-ups. And while you’re at it, dust the coil at the back of the freezer and ensure the temperature is set to -18 degrees Celsius (zero Fahrenheits) before you put food items in the chiller for storage.
